Life on land

OUR COMMITMENT

We aim to plant 1 million olive trees and ensure 100% of our olive groves are farmed in an organic or integrated system. This is how we will create a new green lung for our Planet and ensure the sustainability of our olive farms, by prioritising innovative and lower environmental impact farming techniques.

Our region of origin, Umbria, is home to the Frantoio del Poggiolo olive pressing facility, as well as our olive groves in the land of Sismano, home to 316 thousand olive trees, which will increase to 432 thousand by 2022. We also have land in Carpino, Puglia, and Perolla, in Tuscany, a new acquisition where around 347,000 olive trees are expected to be planted in 245 hectares by 2023, surrounded by 683 hectares of coppice. To date all Bosco Monini land, a total of 290 hectares planted with 337 olive trees, is 100% organically farmed.

All this will enable us to fight land desertification and contribute to carbon dioxide absorption, sequestering over 50,000 tons from the atmosphere, the equivalent of 3,000 tons per year.

Why this is important

01Climate change

Over the last 150 years, production models have led to an increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, causing the temperature to rise. Climate change has resulted in increasingly frequent extreme weather events, also in the Mediterranean region, with a succession of prolonged periods of drought and extreme bouts of bad weather.

02Risks to humanity and the environment

Climate change has a direct impact on agriculture, since it alters the morphology of the land and reduces available resources.
The development of advanced agricultural systems is fundamental in protecting environmental resources on the surface and underground. In Europe, around 80% of fresh water consumed comes from rivers and ground water, undoubtedly threatened by pollution and excessive exploitation.
